Tony began his lifelong passion for breeding Murray Greys in 1975,
when at the age of fifteen, he purchased an approved angus cow with
a C grade calf at foot, and became the Sunrise stud at
Dromedary, north of Hobart.
After moving to North Eastern Tasmania and starting the Boobyalla
stud, near Gladstone, he with his brother Andrew, developed a large
herd of 150 stud Murray Grey Cows, and a further 350 commercial cows.
The progeny of these cattle were fattened on farm each year for the
domestic supermarket trade. The farm also ran 3000 wool sheep.
Tony attended Glenormiston Agricultural College in Victoria, and went
on to spend almost two years in the USA, studying feedlotting and
cropping in the Mid West states of Minnesota and Montana.
Tony then spent four years in the dairy farming district of Ringarooma
in NE Tasmania running the family dairy farm, milking 300 Friesian
cows.
In 1998, Tony moved with his wife Teresa to the beautiful Huon Valley,
south of Hobart, and began Ultimate Murray Greys with
a small number of elite females. He then spent five years working
for the Department of Justice, as Agricultural Manager for the Hayes
Prison Farm near Hobart, managing mixed industries including a dairy
and cropping, as well as training prison inmates in farm practices.
Also during this time, Tony worked for the Department of Primary Industries
negotiating with landowners to place covenants on private forests
as part of the Private Forest Reserve Program.
Tony and Teresa have three children, and now have several businesses,
including an agricultural consultancy, and a property development
and renovation company.
