Beef
Australia 2006 putting young people first through the Rabobank
Young Ambassador Awards & Youth Forum
Young
people aged between 18 and 26 who plan on attending Beef Australia
2006 in Rockhampton between 1 May and 7 May are encouraged to
enter the Rabobank Young Ambassador Awards. Time is running
out for entrants to test their beef industry skills and knowledge
against their peers and be in the running for a once in a lifetime
opportunity to visit the Houston Livestock Show in the
United States
and participate in a beef study tour to
New Zealand
.
Rabobank
Young Ambassador Entrant Natalie Quinn jumped at the chance to
travel to the States and
New Zealand
when she learnt about the Awards while visiting the Beef Australia
website. Entering was straight forward she says.
“All
I had to do was prepare a marketing brief that promoted Beef
Australia 2006 and the wider beef industry to various groups in my
local Charleville community. It was fun pulling it together,
not hard. My parents are commercial cattle producers and I
work for Elders so I have a background in beef production and
general rural industry but I learnt as I went along. It’s
a fairly short presentation on a big, interesting topic so it came
together really easily. “
“Even
if I’m not a finalist I’ll be at the Expo. I have a desire to
learn about the industry and the people in it as it exists today.
I want to know how it is going to develop into the future and
where the youth of the industry fit into this equation.
I’ll get that at Beef Australia 2006. It’s an opportunity too
good to miss.”
Geoff
Murphy, Beef
Australia
2006 Chair said he was encouraged by the interest shown in the
awards to date. ”It’s a great competition and one that we are
proud to partner with Rabobank on. It’s a great social and
networking opportunity for finalists. They attend social and
official functions, meet and greet our international and special
guests and assist with the official opening. Over the week
finalists are also interviewed by a panel of judges. They
are also required to research and prepare a five-minute
presentation on a specific topic relevant to the beef industry at
the Beef 2006 Rabobank Young Ambassador Youth Forum.”
The
Forum will commence at 8.30am on Wednesday 3 May in the James
Lawrence Pavilion Room at the Rockhampton Showgrounds and will be
an action packed four hours. In addition to finalists
presentations there will be a discussion about careers in the beef
industry featuring a panel of speakers from major pastoral
companies and agricultural training providers. Forum
attendees will be able to meet potential employers and contribute
to the discussion on what the future employment needs of the beef
industry will be.
