Bull from the west reigns supreme in Sydney

2011

For the second year in a row a bull from Western Australia has won Grand Champion Murray Grey bull at the Sydney Royal Easter Show, with Willawa Greys Ernest E16 taking out the title, along with winning the Best Murray Grey Exhibit of the show.

The same bull was the Supreme Exhibit at the 2010 Perth Royal Show. The 776kg bull bred and exhibited by the Giles Family was purchased by Geoff and Kate Buick of the Arki Murray Grey Stud, SA for $5,500 at this year’s National Show & Sale.

Also the Senior Champion bull and by Willawa Greys Corbel, the bull was described by Judge Peter Collins as a bull that is ‘very structurally correct, with a great EMA of 127cmsq, he has great hindquarters and is very well put together’.

Junior Champion bull went to Elizabethfields Superimpose E20, exhibited by Dr SE Johnson & Ms MA Hunter. By Millwood Superimpose, the 748kg bull was chosen by Mr Collins because of ‘his power, big sirey head, wonderful shoulders and depth of body.

In a highly competitive female section, Junior Champion Female, Shellgardi Brazzinia, exhibited by R Joyce was chosen by Mr Collins because she is ‘a very feminine heifer that exhibits great power’.

In what appears to be a growing trend in the Murray Grey show ring 2011, the Junior Champion Female went on to be crowned the Grand Champion Murray Grey Female, beating Senior Champion Female Elizabethfields Gemma B2.
