Capital welcome for Murray Greys

The excitement is building for the Murray Grey Beef Cattle feature show, proudly sponsored by Rabobank at this year’s Royal Canberra Royal Show.

The Murray Greys, Australia’s Own Beef Breed will be on display with over 180 head of cattle competing for a prize pool in excess of $28,000.00 for both the Steer and Stud competitions to be won.

The major sponsor of the Murray Grey Feature Show is Rabobank, with Silver Sponsors McDonald Signs, Young and Terri Fryer Stockfeeds, Wantabadgery also providing support.

The parade of Murray Greys competing is going to be a spectacular event not to be missed. Not only due to the quality of Murray Grey cattle that will be on display, but because of the fundraising the Murray Grey community will be doing for the McGrath Foundation and the Country Hope Charity.

Murray Grey handlers will be wearing pink polo shirts to help raise awareness for the McGrath Foundation and the work they do to provide breast care nurses to breast cancer patients.

It is hoped that the Murray Grey community will be able to raise a large sum of money for the McGrath Foundation through both the auction of a Murray Grey Steer as part of the Royal National Capital Hoof and Hook Competition and the auction of some sporting memorabilia, including a boxed cricket shirt and ball autographed by Shane Warne.

A second Murray Grey steer will also be auctioned with all funds going to Country Hope, a country based, family centred support organisation for children diagnosed with cancer and other life threatening illnesses.

Both steers were donated by Glen and Narelle Oag of Braeside Park Murray Greys and will be prepared by John and Nicole Rodd of Wagga Murray Greys. The stockfeed that will help towards the preparation of these steers has been kindly donated by Evan and Terry Fryer, Wantabadgery NSW.

The steer competition and auction takes place Thursday 24th February and Murray Grey Stud cattle judging from 9am on the 25th February at the Canberra showgrounds.
