$9,000 top for Murray Grey National Show and Sale
2012While the 2012 National Murray Grey National Show & Sale experienced some icy weather outside the exhibition centre, inside the auction ring the action was heating up with a top price for bulls reaching $9,000 and females $6,500.
Sue Francis, Onward Murray Greys, Dorrigo NSW, won the bidding frenzy on Cullenya Frazer and paid the top price of $9,000 on the twenty one month old son of Karawi Hill First Edition.
Offered by Des and Anne Slattery of the Cullenya Murray Grey Stud, Frazer weighed in at 900kg, with an EMA if 119cmsq, Cullenya Frazer placed second in his class to the Reserve Junior Champion Bull and stablemate, Cullenya Fisher. A bull also heading to Dorrigo, purchased by Paul and Sandra Franics of the Ondiong Murray Grey Stud for $6,500.
The Senior and Grand Champion Bull and Supreme Exhibit of the show, Yamba Exhibit, offered by Brian Powell made the second top price for bulls, reaching $8,000.
Earlier in the day Yamba Exhibit was singled out by judge Mr Tim Lord and his associate, Miss Jessie Thompson when he was named Senior and Grand Champion and Supreme Exhibit of the show.
The 1,146kg son of Yamba Bonanza B32 scanned an impressive EMA of 140cmsq and caught the eye of the judges for being a ‘powerful, red meat machine’. Traits that presumably also caught the eye of purchaser, Wayne Smith of the Glenview Murray Grey Stud, Black Mountain NSW.
Champion Unled Bull, Rogialyn Firestone, offered by the Rogialyn Murray Grey Stud, was described by judges as a ‘great example of a beef breed bull, he has length and depth and is a powerful looking. The 804kg son of Lindsay Vinnie was puchased by Peter and Anita Fielding of the Fieldview Park Stud, Mandagery NSW, for the top price for unled bulls at $7,000.
The Reserve Champion unled bull, Yamba Fixture was sold for $4,000 to G & H Finlay, through Elders Alexandra.
In the females, the top price of $6,500 was paid for the Junior Champion Female, Arki Friendship F115, offerd by Geoff and Kate Buick.
Purchased by Glenburn Station, Bayswater VIC, the impressive young heifer overcame some strong competition earlier in the day to win the Junior Champion Female title. Judge Mr Tim Lord, chose the sixteen month old daughter of Monterey Action Man A5 because he appreciated her ‘beautiful wedge shape, strength of spine and width between the hips and pins’.
The Reserve Junior Champion Female, Wagga Murray Greys Joanne was purchased by Burkatilla Beef, Mt Barker SA.
The second top price for females, went to the Reserve Senior Champion Female, Barant Yepa, offered by Anthony and Denise Fabris. Ahe was purchased by Pip Burnett of the Coringa Murray Grey Stud, Stirling SA for $5,000.
Senior and Grand Champion Female of the show went to Glenliam Farm Antoinette Z73. This stylish cow and calf unit was chosen by Mr Lord and Ms Thompson for ‘both the power and the femininity she displayed and the great job she is doing on her calf’. The cow was sold after the auction for $5,000 to Burkatilla Beef, Mt Barker SA.
In the unled female section, Mr Lord and Ms Thompson chose another Glenliam Farm female as their champion. Glenliam Farm Beroleane A123 was named Champion Unled Female and described by Mr Lord as ‘a most complete pacakage, she is the kind of cow you could keep forever’. The seven year old cow with a silver heifer calf at foot was purchased for $3,000 by G & L Connolly.
Reserve Champion Unled female went to The Gleny Betty Y7, offered by The Glen Pastoral Co. The cow and calf unit fetched the top price for unled females at $4,250. She was purchased through by Brian Benson through Ray White Coonabarabran.
Of the semen lots offered, the top price was received for 10 lots of semen offered by The Glen Murray Grey Stud from Cudgegong Park Bass. The semen mad $185 a straw and was puchased the Rogialyn Murray Grey Stud.
Overall the sale statistics saw 23 females Offered, 21 sold, a clearance of 91%, average of $3,202.38 and a top price of $6,500.
Bulls saw 37 offered 37, 24 sold, a clearance of 65%, average of $4,614.58 and a top price of $9,000
Semen packages saw 11 lots offered, 10 Sold, a clearance of 91%, average of$1,142.50 and a top price of $1,850.
