Shell-Dee tops at Roma

Kingaroy’s Marilyn Hansen and Dean Rasmussen, Shell-Dee Murray Greys, were delighted to secure the top price of $12,500 at the annual Murray Grey Northern Bull Sale at Roma on Monday 17th September 2012, where 51 bulls from 13 vendors averaged $4215.

Dingo beef producers, Barrie and Jan Bauman, Tryphinia View, paid the top money for the 25-month-old Shell-Dee Mr Benchmark, who weighed in at 960kg and boasted a scrotal measurement of 44.5cm and an EMA of 132sq.cm. The Baumans also purchased Burnett Downs Forest for $4000 and Shell-Dee Mr Frame for $6000 and plan to use the bulls over commercial Brahman cows to produce steers and heifers for the EU market.

Shell-Dee Murray Greys also sold the second top price bull for $8000, with Shell-Dee Distinction selling to the Davidson family. Weighing in at a massive 1130kg, 32-month-old Distinction has enjoyed a strong run in the show ring winning the interbreed at the Oakey and Bell shows, senior champion bull at Gympie and reserve junior champion bull at the Brisbane Royal Show in 2011. Distinction recorded a scrotal measurement of 44.5cm and an EMA of 138sq cm.

Other sales of note included Steele Rudd Fair Dinkum, offered on account of the Densley family, Greenmount, who sold to Euneeke Cattle Co, Springsure, for $7000. At just 22 months, Fair Dinkum weighed 780kg with 38cm in the scrotum and 121sq cm in the EMA. Glengower Funky F40, sold on account of the Vayro family, Miles, also made $7000, selling to the Smith family, Iona, Wallumbilla. At 22 months, Funky weighed 820kg, had a scrotal measurement of 43cm and an EMA of 126sq cm.

The volume vendors of the sale were Euneeke Cattle Co, Springsure, who purchased six bulls averaging $4916 while the Beardmore family, Rosehill, St George, purchased five averaging $4500. Phillip Coe, Coo-ee, Durong, purchased four averaging $3250; Kevin Golchert, Chowey Creek paid an average of $3500 for his three; and Mesner farming, Marango, Bollon, also paid an average of $3500 for their three bulls.
