Roma Murray Greys reach $5000

November 18, 2014

Wandoan Santa Gertrudis breeders Jan and Rowan Davidson were so impressed with their first drop of Murray Grey/Santa cross calves that they were back as the top price buyers at the Grey Advantage Bull Sale in Roma last Wednesday.

The Davidsons paid $5000 for the deep-bodied Whitburn Houston H3, sold on account of Tahnee Manton, Whitburn Murray Grey Stud, Glen Innes NSW.   The 25 month old bull weighed in at 856 kilograms and boasted an eye muscle area of 126 sq cms.

Mr Davidson said he was impressed with the bull’s weight for age and “neatness”

“He’s just a nice, neat bull and we will use him over our commercial Santa cows,” he said.  “We’ve got about four Murray Grey bulls now.  We’ve been very impressed with their temperament.”

The Grey Advantage Bull Sale included 17 Greyman bulls that also reached the equal top price of $5000 when Gilmandyke Park G476 sold to Clive Hoffman, Rockhampton.  Mr Hoffman purchased three bulls averaging $3500, while Stehr Holdings, Goondiwindi, paid $4000 for Baroona Park Orator.
