The Harvey Beef Gate 2 Plate Feedlot Challenge
September 10, 2014A new beef supply chain competition is starting up in WA. The competition will assess cattle through the grain fed beef supply chain for the MSA graded WA domestic market.
The competition is run under the Albany Agricultural Society and organised by a group of local volunteers from all aspects of the beef industry.
Cattle will be assessed only on measurable attributes that are important for profitability, efficiency and quality through the whole supply chain.
Points will be allocated for feedlot performance, ability to meet processor specifications, carcase quality and profitability through the supply chain. A team of three animals (two steers and a heifer) must be entered by each competitor. The cattle must be owner bred.
Full feedback will be provided to all competitors on the performance of their cattle throughout each stage of the competition.
There is some fantastic prizes up for grabs thanks to generous sponsorship from industry. The first prize will be $5000 thanks to our main sponsors Harvey Beef. Entries open Thursday 11th September with cattle to go on feed in January 2015. Entry forms and further information will be available on the Albany Agricultural Society Website (http://www.albanyshow.org.au/). Entries will be taken on a strictly first come first served basis as there is limited places available.
