Prairie Falls top of Murray Grey ringApril 10, 2015
The line-up Murray Greys exhibited at the Sydney Royal Show were a display the breed should be proud of, said judge Jake Phillips.
Mr Phillips, Garanggi Murray Grey stud, Torrensville, South Australia, awarded Prairie Falls Kash K6, exhibited by Crystal Bell, Prairie Falls, Flinders, Victoria, the champion bull title before going on to sash it best exhibit.
Mr Phillips said the bull was everything a producer could ask for at its age and could influence any herd it went into.
At 10 months old, the bull al ready weighed 554 kilograms and had an eye muscle area (EMA) of 89 square centimetres and seven and five millimetres of rump and rib fat.
Its sire, Monteray Fastrack F35, was junior champion of the Melbourne Royal Show in 2011.
Miss Bell has only been producing her own cattle for two years but has al ready enjoyed plenty of success.
Fastrack had also previously been junior champion bull at Berwick Show, Victoria . To take best exhibit, Kash K6 outclassed a quality senior and grand champion female exhibited by Lachlan and Kate James, Wallawong Murray Greys, Curlewis.
The nine-year-old cow Bundaleer T.T B33 and its calf, Wallawong T.T. Kl 10, were at their first major show, said stud principal Lachlan James, but two weeks earlier T.T B33 had also won champion Murray Grey at Tamworth Show.
The James’s had purchased a herd of 43 cows from Bundaleer Murray Greys, Karridale, Western Australia, three years ago and the champion female was from that line.
Mr Phillips said the cow had great carcase traits and was structurally sound. The grand cow was a daughter of Bundaleer T.T.Cash Flow Y6 and from Bundaleer T.T T30.
Reserve senior female was Glenliam Farm Linda F12, by Lindsay Commander C121 and from Glenliam Farm Linda C61, exhibited by Glenliam Murray Greys, Dungog.
