BUYERS, vendors and agents were left shaking their heads in disbelief as they walked off the rails at last week’s Landmark Boyanup store cattle sale with prices again rising.

It has become a familiar story at Boyanup store sales in recent months with everyone questioning how much higher can prices go.

The Landmark South West team yarded a quality offering of 1000 cattle and it was met by a strong crowd of enthusiastic buyers eager to fill orders, which resulted in price barriers again being smashed.

Other vendors who cashed in on the Harvey operation’s buying were J Vegar & Co, Bridgetown, which received 290c/kg ($1085) for its pen of seven Murray Grey steers averaging 374kg and Peter G Varischetti, Waroona, achieved 304c/kg and $1079 for a pen of seven Angus weighing 355kg.

Harvey Beef Farms also purchased 12 Murray Grey steers averaging 324kg at 303c/kg and $981 and another 12 Murray Greys averaging 293kg at 304c/kg and $890 from the Ashmores.

Williams lotfeeder Gordon Atwell, Welldon Beef, Williams, competed strongly on the beef steers only to be outbid by Harvey Beef Farms on many occasions.

However he managed to secure a pen of 14 Murray Grey steers averaging 315kg from the Ashmores at 295c/kg and $930.

The Ashmores took the top 319c/kg price honour with a pen of 12 Murray Grey steers weighing 237kg that cost WH & F Dilley $756.

After missing out on steers, Welldon Beef made up for it in the heifer run collecting 10 pens totalling 68 head in the 280 to 400kg weight range for between 268 and 282c/kg. Included in its purchases was a 400kg Murray Grey cross heifer offered by BS & CM Gardiner, Bridgetown, at 271c/kg and $1084..

Mr Pollock purchase five pens which included 14 Murray Greys averaging 288kg at 273c/kg and $786 and seven Angus weighing 301kg at 260c/kg and $783. GJ & J Watt, Margaret River, operated on the lighter heifer lines and their purchases included 17 Murray Greys weighing 217kg from the Ashmores at 260c/kg and $564.

The Piggotts also purchased six Murray Grey steers from A & PE Pratico, Boyup Brook, at $760 and 13 Angus cross from Evans Dairy, Busselton, at $670.

Mr Pollock bid to $1520 for two Murray Grey cow and calf units offered by C & P Odorisio & Co, Waroona.
