November 12, 2021Our Annual Murray Grey weekend held on January 15th to 17th 2021 in the Clare Valley region, show casing different things in the area. We started on Friday 15th with a Pizza and drinks at Scobie lane retreat (82 Scobie Rd, Armagh) Which was lovely and thanks to Katrina and Steve Sanders, opening up their B & B at Scobie Lane for all of us to either stay in the house, where there is 5 beautiful rooms and can sleep 10 people at once. The rest of us that have campers or caravans, ventured up the hill a little way and set up around the top shed, overlooking their vineyard and bulls. Also the younger generation just rolling out swags in the old dairy that they have done up for entertaining. It was very a relaxed evening around an oil burner when some people got it to go, which was funny as the younger generation google how to light it and older ones knowing what to do, even with some burning or singed arms and eye brows .
As most of us where all staying here we had a shared breakfast and cuppa before heading into starting the day’s events. We met at Martindale Hall (1 Min Man Rd, Mintaro) at 10am, for a lovely group tour of this mansion. Very interesting and well worth a look if you’re around the area. It was one of our biggest groups so far with around 40 people, from here we headed to the The Olive Bus (216 Spring Farm Rd, Spring Farm) for lunch then we headed back to Ballyvaughan Stud (363 Boconnoc Park Rd, Boconnoc Park) where we meet Mary Chirgwin (Zoetis rep) and had a talk on Vaccination and demonstration on the best ways to vaccinate. Then for the new members and anyone having trouble tattooing a demonstration and their where able to have a go, as Steve and Katrina kindly had some heifers in the yards, we also took some DNA samples etc a very hot but interesting afternoon and we hope very one learnt something from it.
To finish off a great day we had our dinner at the Bentleys Hotel, Clare.
With most people staying at Scobie Lane retreat we held our AGM at 10am in the old dairy followed by a BBQ lunch and then free time to either stay and look around the Ballayvaugan Herd or start heading back home. We welcome stud and commercial fellow Murray grey breeders to attend and this years January weekend the 21st to 23rd, 2022.
