CENTRAL Highlands beef producer Darren Gilliam, Lake Elphinstone Station, Nebo had one thing on his mind after purchasing the $7000 top money bull at the Grey Advantage sale, Roma saleyards, last Wednesday.

“To breed show quality steers from our high quality Droughtmaster/Brahman/Limousin cross cows,” said Mr Gilliam.

The top money bull, Shell-Dee Action Man, a quality son of Monterey Mr Cool, was offered by Marilyn Hansen, Shell-Dee Murray Grey stud, Kingaroy.

Mr Gilliam was represented by Peter Brazier, GDL, Dalby who said the bull scanned up well, had a terrific back end and excellent weight for his age.

Marilyn Hansen sold six Shell-Dee prefix bulls for a $4500 average.

The $6000 second top money also came from the Hansen stable, Shell-Dee Neptune, a dark grey son of Shell-Dee Federation which was bought by Girlie Goody, Malakoff, Monto who selected the bull for his temperament and strong top line and wide hindquarter.

“He (Neptune) will be used over Angus and Limousin cross heifers,” said Mrs Goody.

Overall 19 Murray Grey bulls were sold for a $3789 average.

Interstate vendors, the Bateman family, Gilmandyke Park, Orange, New South Wales sold five Greyman bulls for a $3200 average.
